MILAN WINES

Wines produced in Lombardy were famous since the ancient Roman times, and the region is well known today, yet, for its high quality products.
You will find there wines for all tastes and for all budgets, white and red nectars, different for type and production area, to be tasted with dishes of the Lombardy and North Italy tradition. Especially the area of the Oltrepò pavese has a proud tradition of excellent wine.
When you will be in Lombardy, just remember to taste a few of them such as Buttafuoco, Sangue di Giuda, Barbera, Pinot and Bonarda.

Buttafuoco
The name seems to derive from the dialect "to me to Fogh buta" which means "warm - wakes up like fire", in relation to the fact that this is a wine of character and body. Another explanation, more fantastic, is also connected to the effigy of the Club adottatta Buttafuoco: an oval enclosed by two red ribbons, a symbol of the stream and the stream Scuropasso Versa, the two streams in the area which is enclosed production. The oval contains an image of a sailing ship with sails on fire. The explanation of the presence of the Dawn Treader is the following. In the second half of '800, the legend goes, the Imperial Navy Austro - Hungarian launched a ship to which he was given the name Buttafuoco in memory of a company of sailors deployed in Stratford for the ferry on the river Po and busy fighting against the army of the Kingdom of Sardinia in Oltrepò. Rather than deal with the water of the river, but the sailors would be employed in the wine cellar, carrying out raids in the barrels and bottles of red Oltrepò. The goodness of red wine Buttafuoco, according to the legend, so softened the hearts of Imperial soldiers to make them more easily inclined to peace operations in military operations against the Piedmontese troops and the local population.
We recommend pairing with red meat dishes or game.

Sangue di Giuda

His name is linked to the ruby red color with purple hues, is a legend. Legend has it that Judas, worst in the past life of that wretched on the earth, had bitterly repented of having betrayed Jesus Christ, in token of forgiveness, he would revive. Judas would have reappeared in the flesh in Oltrepò, specifically in Broni. Recognized him, the local citizens decided to kill him, as Judas the betrayer of Jesus was saved thanks to a gift made to the local growers: healed their vines from the disease at that time had hit. To thank him, winemakers dedicated to him the name of their sweet red wine.
We recommend pairing with almond cakes, pastries, tarts.

Barbera
Robust wine full of personality, Barbera has for decades been the classic red wine with meals, much appreciated by consumers originally from Piedmont, Lombardy and from those, and now in much of the Italian territory, especially in the north.
We recommend pairing with roast meat or rice.

Bonarda
The name's origin is uncertain Bonarda. According to some authors, the name comes from the Lombard surname Bono with the addition of "hard", which in Lombard meant "brave and strong. " The reconstruction is based on the fact that the Lombards had Pavia as its capital, with the extension of their dominion in Oltrepò. The wine is made from grape Bonarda Oltrepò Croatina, whose etymology comes from "Croatti"- "tie " would indicate that the wine made from Croatina drank on holidays, when exactly was worn a tie.
We recommend pairing with dishes of meats, stews, sausage, gammon, cassoeula. Also pasta with tomato-based sauces better with meat, rice with meat or vegetables, meat ravioli in broth.
